Do as the Romans do
Well in this case, Roman legionaries (not to mention cowboys).
Dried strips of beef was the usual marching field ration. So, for historical interest (and because I am on the third book of my Roman military saga) I had to try some. I thought this was a safe option as I really don't really fancy eating a stuffed dormouse with my chips tonight.
Low in fat but an excellent source of protein, beef jerky. Find the recipe here
And my opinion? It was like eating a shoe sole that had dipped in pepper.
