First Aid Kit
First Aid Kit are Swedish folk duo made of sisters Johanna (b. 1990) and Klara (b. 1993). Their voices are breathtaking and their lyrics so world-weary I was shocked to learn they were just little girls. Strange but compelling, they are at their best when playing live. Their new single The Lion's Roar is out now.

What a pair of talented artists indeed. I discovered First Aid Kit by chance a month ago : someone posted a video on the website of Acoustic Guitar magazine community. First, before watching the video, I thought it would be yet another teenager band. But I was happily surprised by their performance. Their songs are very mature for their age, and they make authentic folk music. Nowadays, for commercial reasons alas, radios or vendors tend to label 'folk' any tune with acoustic instruments because it's fashionable. But many aren't real folk music. These girls do it the right way, in the storytelling tradition. Unfortunately, their music isn't dealed here in France, but I managed to find their debut CD at a nice price (imports are expensive). I'm a big fan now! By the way, the UK seems to have kinda 'folk revival', with lots of new musicians doing very good stuff.
