We had our first taste of Russian food and a very tasty lunch at
Restaurant St Petersburg in Dresden. I was told about Solyanka which is a thick, spicy, and sour soup that was made popular in Eastern Germany from the days when Soviet troops were stationed here. It's definitely a perfect soup for winter days and substantial enough for a filling dinner with slices of bread. So of course we had to try that and also Pelmeni, which is a dish consisting of meat-filled dumplings topped with sour cream orginating from Siberia.
