In the news: Cholita climbers conquer the high peaks
My favourite piece of recent, feel-good news is just so inspirational. Eleven Bolivian indigenous Aymara women aged between 42 and 50 have just scaled their 5th and highest mountain yet (Illimani, 6,348m). Two years ago the women who worked as cooks and porters for mountaineers at base camps in the Bolivian Cordillera Real range decided to take up climbing for theselves. Swapping their traditional bowler hats for helmets but retaining their beautiful full skirts these ladies are amazing.
