Leeds International Film festival
Did you know that the Leeds International film festival is the largest film festival in England, outside London? I had no idea until just now, and am so happy to have been given the chance to watch some of the best in independent and world cinema on the big screen.
This evening I watched Sami Blood, a Swedish film written and directed by Amanda Kernell. It's a coming of age story of a young Sami girl in 1930s Sweden who decides to run away from her identity and culture after experiencing prejudice and injustice while at a boarding school for nomadic children.
This film was so powerful I know I will be thinking about it for a long time to come. The actress playing Ella-Marja (later Christina) was superb.
